If spending multiple days in the dentist’s chair doesn’t sound appealing, you’re not alone. Traditional dental crowns can require two or more visits.

Instead, CEREC dental crowns offer a quality, durable ceramic restoration designed, created, and fitted in a single dentist visit using innovative computer-aided design and manufacturing technology.

You might benefit from CEREC dental crowns if you:

  • Have cracked or broken teeth
  • Need tooth support with a large filling
  • Need to strengthen weak teeth
  • Want to enhance your smile

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a custom-made, tooth-shaped cap that restores the function, appearance, and health of a damaged or weakened tooth. Your dentist might recommend getting a crown for several reasons.

  1. Restoring cracked or broken teeth. A cracked or broken tooth isn’t just painful—if not treated promptly, it can lead to serious complications like infection or decay. A dental crown acts as a protective cap, shielding the damaged tooth and restoring its strength and functionality.
  2. Support a tooth with a large filling. When a tooth has a large filling, it can become fragile and prone to cracking. A crown reinforces the tooth, preventing further damage while maintaining its structure.
  3. Protect a weak tooth. Decay or trauma can leave a tooth vulnerable. A crown offers a barrier against bacteria, protecting it from further damage and decay while strengthening it for daily use.
  4. Enhance the appearance of your smile. Sometimes, crowns are used for aesthetic purposes. Porcelain crowns, in particular, are crafted to look natural and blend seamlessly with your smile, making them an excellent option for improving the appearance of discoloured or misshapen teeth.

What Are Same-Day Dental Crowns?

Same-day dental crowns, or CEREC crowns, are created and fitted in just one dental visit using innovative computer-aided design and manufacturing technology. CEREC crowns essentially marry dentistry and digital imaging with digital design, eliminating the need for multiple visits to the dentist and wearing uncomfortable temporary crowns.

If you’re frustrated with your mouth, and restoration work has failed, a reconstruction of your smile with CEREC crowns could be your radical solution.

How Does Teeth-in-a-Day Work?

Teeth-in-a-day is Smyl’s approach to quick reconstruction using implants and CEREC crowns.

Dental technology has changed how implants are designed and placed, offering patients a faster and more precise solution for restoring their smiles. From initial scans to same-day crown placement, every step is carefully engineered to help provide a seamless and efficient experience, allowing patients to regain confidence in their smiles with minimal downtime.

Comprehensive Digital Scanning & Planning

The process begins with a full digital scan of the patient’s head and mouth using innovative imaging technology.

This initial scan captures:

  •   Every tooth’s structure and alignment
  •   Bite function and how your teeth come together
  •   Muscle movements and facial expressions to help ensure a natural look

Digital scans allow the dentist to visualize the entire mouth in motion and design implants that are both aesthetically pleasing (matching natural teeth and facial structure) and functionally effective (improving bite, speech, and jaw comfort).

Additional high-resolution photos are taken to analyze how the new teeth will look in different expressions.

Engineering the Crown & Treatment Plan

Using the scans and photos, the dentist and surgical team precisely plan the crown and implant placement before the procedure even begins.

The goal is to:

  •   Ensure the implants replace missing or damaged teeth with a perfect fit
  •   Strategically place implants in areas of strong bone density for long-term stability
  •   Restore both function and natural symmetry of the patient’s smile

The team uses 3D modeling software to determine each implant’s ideal angle and depth.

Surgery & Crown Placement

On the day of the procedure, the patient is typically sedated or put under general anesthesia for comfort.

Your surgeon performs several key steps:

  • Removing diseased or failing teeth to create a healthy foundation.
  • Reshaping the bone (if needed) to support the implants properly.
  • Placing the implants into the jawbone with precision.
  • Attaching the new teeth after securing the implants.

Recovery & Healing Period

While the recovery process is relatively smooth, you can expect some swelling, soreness, and minor discomfort in the first few days. To help relieve your discomfort, you can use over-the-counter pain relievers, or prescribed medications (if required).

Eating a soft food and/or liquid diet for the first few months can help allow for proper healing. Avoiding crunchy, chewy, or sticky foods eliminates jostling or dislodging of your implant while your mouth heals. Typically, patients adjust quickly and return to normal within a week, though full integration of the implants can take a few months.

Why Choose Same-Day Dental Crowns?

If you’ve been frustrated with your smile restoration, or regular crowns are too cumbersome and time consuming, CEREC same-day crowns can be a solution. The benefits of CEREC mainly centre around their convenience. Typically, you can have your crown created and placed in one afternoon.

Since CEREC uses durable ceramic material, it is relatively low-maintenance—your daily oral health routine is enough to keep it in good condition.

Is a Same-Day Crown Right for You?

While same-day crowns are a fantastic solution for many patients, they may not suit every dental need. Factors like the extent of the tooth damage, your bite, and your long-term oral health goals will help determine whether this option is right for you.

If you’re unsure, schedule a consultation with your dentist. They’ll evaluate your situation and provide a tailored recommendation based on your needs.
