Dr. Grant Yiu — Dentist

I’m so excited to be a part of this practice and serving this vibrant community!

Everyone has made me feel so welcomed that it feels like I’m already a part of the fabric of the neighborhood, which is what drives my passion for dentistry.

I have spent the last 20 years developing the skills necessary to provide comprehensive care, including:

General Dentistry

Aesthetic Makeovers
Invisalign

But at the end of the day, it still comes back to what is the right solution for the person sitting in front of me. That means getting to know the person, not just the mouth.

Oral health is about more than just shiny teeth. It’s about eating whatever you want, when you want; it’s about smiling without covering your mouth. Sometimes it’s getting you out of pain; and sometimes, it’s just about keeping things the same.

A bedrock principle throughout my professional career has always been to focus on the outcome, not the treatment, and that comes down to understanding you and what you want before deciding what is the best treatment for you.

There is a way forward to health and I’m excited to go on that journey with you!

Dr. Mat Laforge Savoie – Dentist

Dr. Mathieu Laforge Savoie completed his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at the University of Ottawa and went on to complete his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at McGill University in 2016. Dr. Mat then completed a one-year residency at the prestigious Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, New York, which allowed him to gain skills and expertise in dental surgery, the treatment of medically complex patients, and managing dental emergencies.

Dr. Mat continued his dental career in Saskatoon where his wife Katherine completed medical training as a Pediatrician. During this time, Dr. Mat pursued his passions for dentistry and continuing education by attending courses at the renowned KOIS institute. As a Kois graduate, it is through this network of clinicians that Dr. Mat was referred to his now friend and colleague at Smyl Dentistry, Dr. Yiu (Owner). Dr. Mat’s vision and treatment philosophy along with Smyl Dentistry’s dedication to patient care, treatment modalities, and approach to whole mouth wellness were a perfect fit.

Dr. Mat’s extensive surgical and implant training, as well as a focus on understanding the link between oral health and general well-being will provide you with a comprehensive treatment strategy tailored to your needs.

In his spare time, Dr. Mat likes to play hockey, golf, cooking, and travel. Most important of all, Dr. Mat enjoys spending time with his wife, Pippa (dog), and the newest member to their family, Remy, their daughter.

Dr. Mat invites all new and existing patients to come say hi and meet the team at Smyl Dentistry.

Deema Alden — Registered Dental Hygienist

Deema is a dedicated dental hygienist who has been providing exceptional care at Smyl Dentistry since August 2022. She firmly believes in the importance of creating a personalized oral care plan for each patient that takes into account their unique wants and needs.

For Deema, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing the transformation of her patients’ smiles and knowing that she played a role in improving their overall health and wellness. Her approach to patient care is centred around empowering individuals to take proactive steps towards disease prevention, which she believes is a crucial aspect of long-term health.

When she’s not in the office, you can find Deema hitting the gym or in a hot yoga class. She also loves to travel and explore different cultures, foods, and architecture around the world. Despite her love for adventure, Toronto will always hold a special place in her heart, particularly during the summer months. In her free time, she enjoys trying new restaurants and attempting to recreate the meals at home. Deema also enjoys visiting family in her hometown of Mississauga.

Shiva — Certified Level II Dental Assistant

Shiva Zardouznia has been part of our team at Now Smile since October 2020. She’s a Certified Level II Dental Assistant and has been in the field of dentistry for 16 years now.

Shiva is committed to service excellence and honors this by ensuring that patients receive the best care. Respecting, listening to, and comforting patients by answering their questions are Shiva’s key goals in her work.

Shiva loves her job as it allows her to help others and make a difference in someone’s life. She sees working alongside Dr. Yiu as a blessing as she learns something new every day. Dr. Yiu also encourages her to take on new and challenging opportunities.

When not in the office, Shiva spends time with her family and friends. She loves long nature walks, and biking and swimming are her main activities in the summer. She also spends lots of hours hiking all year round.
