Same-Day Dental Crowns Explained
A crown, or cap, is a cover that fits over a tooth that has been damaged by decay, broken, root canal treated, badly stained or misshapen. A crown looks and feels like a natural tooth and restores the strength and function of your tooth. Using advanced CEREC technology, same-day crowns require no impressions. We design and create your crown, then permanently bond it to your tooth, all in one visit. No temporary crowns required!
How CEREC Crowns Save You Time and Discomfort
Before this technology came along, getting a dental crown typically took 2 to 3 appointments and required wearing a notoriously uncomfortable temporary crown in between. Thanks to advances in digital dentistry, getting your crown is now easier and faster than ever.
CEREC same-day crowns offer these additional advantages:
- No messy impressions. We use a highly accurate and comfortable digital 3D scan.
- Complete your treatment in as little as one visit.
- Less drilling required, so we can preserve more of your natural tooth structure.
Your Same-Day Crown Appointment, Step by Step
Examining and preparing the tooth
During your appointment, your dentist will examine the affected tooth. If decay is present, we’ll remove the damaged areas and thoroughly clean the tooth. If your tooth has stress fractures, a dental crown will help protect it from breaking further along the fracture line. Your dentist will then shape your natural tooth so the crown fits comfortably overtop.
Your Custom Crown, Made On Site
Once your tooth has been prepared, we’ll use a digital 3D scanner to capture a highly accurate scan of your tooth. No messy impressions or trays required. This digital scan is used to design a custom model of your new crown, and your porcelain crown is milled on site while you wait, using our in-house CEREC machine.
Placement and polish
Your new crown is bonded or cemented in place right away, so there’s no need for a second appointment or a temporary crown. Your dentist will make any final adjustments and check how it feels to ensure a comfortable, precise fit. After a final polish, your new same-day crown is ready to go!
How Much Do Same-Day Crowns Cost in Toronto?
The out-of-pocket cost for a same-day dental crown can vary widely from patient to patient. With a typical dental insurance plan, a single crown usually averages around $200 to $600 or more. Without insurance, a reasonable ballpark figure for a CEREC crown would be about $800 to $1,200 and up. To get your smile looking and feeling like new again, most patients find a dental crown to be an easy decision, though the cost may still give you pause.
So what goes into determining the cost of a same-day crown?
- The type of crown material needed, such as porcelain or ceramic.
- The location and complexity of the procedure.
- The number of dental crowns that may be required.
- Combining crowns with other dental restorations, such as dental bridges.
- Supplies and in-office equipment required for your specific treatment.
Remember, no dental practice can provide an accurate quote over the phone. Your treatment needs are as unique as your smile, so it’s important to speak with a dentist and undergo an oral exam to explore all your treatment options and receive an accurate quote. If you have dental insurance, we’re happy to provide a quote you can submit to them so you can find out your out-of-pocket costs before making a decision.
